Welcome to the Early Sprouts
Gardening Project

Gardening and Nutrition Experiences
for the Young Child

Cooking in the classroom:
  • When children have explored and tasted the vegetable in its raw form, they are more interested and willing to participate in the cooking and tasting process.
  • Children are encouraged to participate in each step of the recipe preparation as developmentally appropriate, by measuring, cutting (with safe tools), mixing, and preparing the food for serving.
  • In addition, the cooking experience connects the Early Sprouts project to other curriculum areas, such as math, science, literacy, and social skill development.
  • Each week a nutritionally sound recipe is prepared by the children with the assistance of the teacher.
